Witches inhabit our world, organized in covens and hiding behind a shroud of secrecy - the Veil.

Skye's London coven sends her to Seattle's Greenwood High to find the Singularity, an unusually gifted witch who may break the Veil and trigger a dangerous new era of witch-hunting. Things get complicated when Skye meets a charming new classmate, Drake. Skye's job becomes even trickier when she clashes with Jane, an intimidating rival witch.

Drake falls for the mysterious Skye, but odd accidents, potion mix-ups, and the occasional brush with death kind of get in the way of romance. Once he discovers Skye is a witch, het goes to war for her, even though his only weapons are a nice set of abs and a sharp sense of humor.

Fighting off wicked Jane and the other dark forces hell-bent on seizing the Singularity's immense power, Skye and Drake will risk everything to save the covens.

Going on a date has never been harder.

Witches have always fascinated me. When I was little they were always the bad guys, hurting people by poisoning them or casting spells upon them. But then Harry Potter came out and my view on witches changed completely. And nowadays most witches I read about are good, sweet people. But this book got both type of witches. The evil and the good ones.

Sky is sent by her coven to Seattle in search of the singularity, a powerful outbreak that possibly hasn’t a clue yet that she’s a witch. If leaving her mom behind in England isn’t bad enough she now also needs to work together with her ex-boyfriend. Who dumped her cruelly almost two years ago. At her new school, Greenwood High, she meets Drake. He’s immediately smitten by her, even if she’s into this ‘new age’ thing. I loved how the romance in this book developed slowly. They had there ups and downs but because of some events they grow closer to each other. Skye was a tough nut to crack in the beginning of the book. She just wanted to get over with the job as quickly as possible and return to England. But after she made some new friends, including Derek and Priscilla she began to soften up. Priscilla was a refreshing voice in this book. She said what she thought even when it might hurt your feelings. But she wasn’t cruel, she just said those things because she wanted to help you. If I could pick a friend then it would be someone like here. Everyone needs someone who isn’t afraid to tell the truth when you need it.

Before I said that there were also evil witches in this book. That’s were Jane comes in. She has the same goal as Skye, finding the singularity. But if Jane finds her first than the witches might be doomed. Jane practices black magic with her coven and she doesn’t mind hurting people if she gets what she wants with it. I’m curious what trouble she will cause in the next book.

I liked the plot of this book a lot. There was enough action and romance in it. So there wasn’t a dull moment in it. But at times I didn’t felt connected with the characters because of the writing style of the author. And there were certain points when he was writing in Skye’s point of view where I had the feeling that he didn’t know how to capture her female voice. But I forgive him for that, after all we can be difficult to figure out.

Definitely a good book the plot was more than ok. And I’m sure that the author’s writing style will only develop in a good way since it was his first book. And I’m looking forward to read the second book in this series.
